Getting Ready for Kindergarten Parent Workshop

The ECE Department is planning a "Getting Ready for Kindergarten" parent meeting to support families make the transition from preschool to kindergarten a smooth one.

The meetings will be held in the evening at each site, the time is 5:30-7:30pm.

Location of meeting: Laredo Child Development Center:
Date: March 24, 2010
Sites that will participate:
CDC, Clyde Miller, Altura, William Smith, Beck Recreation Center and Pickens Tech

Location of meeting: Jamaica Child Development Center:
Date: March 23, 2010
Sites that will participate:
JCDC, Peoria, Vaughn, Boston, Lowry and CP of CO

Location of meeting: Park Lane Elementary
Date: April 13th OR 15th (date to be confirmed)
Sites that will participate:
Park Lane, Fletcher, Crawford, Montview and Sable

Location of meeting: Century Elementary
Date: April 14, 2010
Sites that will participate:
Century, Dartmouth, Meadowood, Datlon, Side Creek and Summer Valley

Mission Statement:
The mission of the Aurora Public Schools Early Childhood Education Department is to ensure that all preschool students will transition into kindergarten with the experiences and skills necessary to reach high levels of learning throughout their academic careers. The ECE Department will provide support to the APS Vista 2010 mission: “Teach every student the knowledge, skills and values necessary to enter college or a career and become a contributing member of society who flourishes in a diverse, dynamic world.” The opportunities for early learning provide a strong foundation that will help to ensure academic success.

The Early Childhood Education Department strives to involve the family by emphasizing the important role they play in their child’s education and support families in their roles as nurturers and teachers.

The Early Childhood Education department remains involved in the School Readiness Project. The School Readiness Project utilizes the Qualistar Rating System to ensure that all preschools and child care centers are of the highest quality.

APS Vision Statement:
Graduate every student with the choice to attend college without remediation.

*Current preschool students advancing to kindergarten in August 2010, do not need to re-register at the Centralized Admissions. Information regarding kindergarten enrollment will be sent via US Mail in April 2010.
